Former world number two Paula Badosa has announced the end of her romantic relationship with fellow tennis player Stefanos Tsitsipas, after nearly a year of being together in the public eye.
Badosa and Tsitsipas officially confirmed their relationship during last year’s French Open, sharing moments on social media and attending each other’s matches. They often posted pictures together on their joint Instagram account.
However, 26-year-old Badosa, who has faced setbacks in her career due to injuries and is currently ranked 126th in the world, revealed that the couple, dubbed “Tsitsidosa” by fans, have parted ways amicably.
In an Instagram story on Sunday, Badosa wrote, “After careful consideration and many cherished moments together, Stefanos and I have decided to amicably part ways. We have shared a journey filled with love and learning, and it is as friends with immense mutual respect that we now choose to move forward on our own paths.”
“We are grateful for the support of our friends, family, and all who have been part of our story. As we transition into this new chapter of our lives, we continue to wish each other nothing but the best in all our endeavors.”
Badosa, a former French Open quarter-finalist, recently disclosed that doctors had advised her against continuing her career due to chronic back pain.
Meanwhile, Tsitsipas, a two-time Grand Slam runner-up, experienced an early exit from the Madrid Masters last month but has shown strong form on clay this season. He claimed the Monte Carlo Masters title and finished as runner-up in Barcelona, positioning himself well for the upcoming French Open, which begins on May 26th.
