Kingston City Council will review a proposal from Victory Grounds Ventures (VGV) to build a multi-use sports stadium at the Memorial Centre during their next meeting.
The proposed stadium aims to host a Canadian Premier League (CPL) soccer team while serving the community with a variety of sports and events. According to the report, 80-85% of the stadium would be dedicated to community use.
Managing Partner Paul Barbeau emphasized in an interview with CFRC that the facility would support both professional soccer and community activities.
While a poll on Mayor Bryan Paterson’s Instagram showed strong support, with 87% of respondents in favor, some community members have expressed concerns. Issues raised include potential increases in traffic, noise, and the removal of agricultural barns at the Memorial Centre.
Council members are set to decide on January 14 whether to proceed with VGV’s proposal, explore other potential sites, or reject the plan altogether.
