JVW captain Robyn Moodaly has set her sights on a top-two or three finish in the upcoming Hollywoodbets Super League season. The midfielder acknowledged that the 2024 season was below expectations, as they finished fifth after ending third in 2023, their best finish since being promoted to South Africa’s elite women’s league.
Moodaly told SABC Sport that the team plans to bounce back when the 2025 season kicks off.
“Last season wasn’t a true reflection of our abilities as a team. We faced many injuries early on, which affected us,” Moodaly said. “Realistically, I hope for a top-three finish, but I can see us finishing second. We’ve always been able to beat top teams and compete at their level.”
She added that consistency will be key for the team’s success.
“Consistency throughout the season is what we need to improve on,” she said.
JVW will enter the new season under a new coach after parting ways with Mitch Stevens, who led the team for two and a half years. Moodaly believes that whoever takes over will maintain the club’s core values.
“Coach Mitch will be missed. He brought a lot of knowledge, and it benefited all of us over the years,” Moodaly said. “But I’m confident that whoever steps in will follow the values of JVW, both on and off the field.”
Moodaly also believes that change can be positive for the team.
“Sometimes, change brings a fresh perspective. It’s a new way to start the year, and we can look at it as an opportunity to begin on a positive note.”
