Dongallo, who was the top scorer in the league last season with UE, will now bring her impressive skills to the Fighting Maroons. The team finished at the bottom of the standings last season. The 5-foot-7 spiker will sit out for a year due to residency rules and will be eligible to play in UAAP Season 88.

Along with Dongallo, Dr. Obet Vital, former interim coach at UE, is also transferring to UP. He will serve as an assistant coach to head coach Benson Bocboc and will oversee the team’s newly-formed training pool.

Veterans Nina Ytang, Kianne Olango, Nica Celis, and Irah Jaboneta, along with rising stars Yesha Noceja and Bienne Bansil, will continue to lead the team. Kassy Doerin, a standout player, is also returning.

The coaching staff will now include Alohi Robbins-Hardy, alongside Bocboc and Vital.

UP volleyball program director Oliver Almadro expressed excitement about the new additions. “Their arrival shows that Mr. Frank Lao, Strong Group Athletics, and the UP Office for Athletics and Sports Development are committed to growing the volleyball program,” Almadro said. “With these new players, we expect to be a strong contender in the coming years.”

With these changes, UP is hopeful for a playoff spot in the near future, ending a long stretch without a Final Four appearance. The last time UP made the Final Four, Tots Carlos and Issa Molde were still playing.

“We are focused on strengthening our volleyball teams, as they have the potential to bring unity to the UP community,” said Bo Perasol, UP-OASD Director. “We welcome Dr. Obet and his players, not only to improve the women’s volleyball team but to show that we are serious about competing at a higher level.”
