Women’s Basketball Wins Key Road Game at John Jay

The women’s basketball team secured a crucial CUNYAC road victory on Wednesday night, defeating John Jay College 68-57.

The game started with both teams tied at 9-9, but the Bearcats finished the first quarter strong, going on a 10-2 run to lead 19-11. In the second quarter, the Bearcats outscored the Bloodhounds 25-14, taking a 44-25 lead into halftime, shooting 50 percent from the field (10-20).

John Jay fought back in the third quarter, outscoring the Bearcats 18-10, and narrowing the gap to nine points at 52-43. However, clutch shooting by Angela Bacarella and a game-high 27 points from Mia Castillo helped the Bearcats hold off the Bloodhounds.

Defense also played a key role, with the Bearcats scoring 31 points off 34 turnovers committed by John Jay. Bacarella finished with a season-high 12 points (6-10 FG), while Castillo contributed 27 points, eight assists, and seven steals. Precious Mitchell added nine points and eight rebounds, and D’Andre McRae contributed 10 rebounds and five steals on defense.

This victory ended a seven-game losing streak to John Jay and marked the first win at their home court since February 13, 2018.

Michaela Lattimore led the Bloodhounds with 15 points and eight rebounds.
