P.V. Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, cruised into the quarterfinals of the India Open 2025 after a dominant 21-15, 21-13 victory over Japan’s Manami Suizu. The World No. 14 player took just 46 minutes to seal the win at the KD Jadhav Indoor Hall, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium.
Sindhu quickly established control, leading 11-6 in the first game before finishing it 21-15. She continued her aggressive play in the second game, surging to an 11-2 lead and closing it out 21-13.
The India Open marks Sindhu’s first tournament since her marriage. She expressed satisfaction with her performance, especially her ability to handle long rallies. Next, she will face Indonesia’s Gregoria Mariska Tunjung, the Paris Olympics bronze medalist, in the quarterfinals.
In men’s singles, Kiran George secured a spot in the quarterfinals with a 22-20, 21-13 win over World No. 38 Alex Lanier of France. George will meet China’s Weng Hongyang on Friday.
In women’s doubles, the Indian duo of Tanisha Crasto and Ashwini Ponnappa were eliminated after a tight 9-21, 21-23 loss to Japan’s Yuki Fukushima and Mayu Matsumoto. They became the fourth Indian doubles team to exit the tournament.
