Head coach Greg Gibos praised his team’s progress, emphasizing their ability to perform under pressure. “I think we saw some good growth again over the course of the weekend,” Gibos said, highlighting their strategic serving. “Just making good quality serves to the targets that we were looking for,” he noted, explaining how they kept the opposition off balance.

Women’s Volleyball and Basketball Face Challenges

The Kodiaks women’s volleyball team had a tough weekend, losing both matches against SAIT in straight sets.

Meanwhile, the women’s basketball team experienced mixed results. They started the weekend with a narrow 71-66 road win on Friday, thanks to Ryan Degner’s 21-point contribution. However, the team struggled overall, shooting just over 40 percent from the field, 19 percent from beyond the arc, and 68 percent from the free-throw line.

Saturday’s game saw SAIT turn the tables with an 80-66 victory at Val Matteotti Gym. Treydon Barton led the Kodiaks with 17 points, but the team’s shooting percentages dropped, including a 37.5 percent success rate from the field, 33.3 percent from three-point range, and 65.4 percent from the free-throw line.

The women’s basketball team faced further difficulties, suffering losses of 85-48 and 78-54 on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Three players scored nine points in Friday’s defeat, while Bailey Blackmore stood out on Saturday with 16 points. Their shooting statistics reflected ongoing challenges, with Saturday’s figures showing 37 percent accuracy from the field, 20 percent from beyond the arc, and 57 percent from the free-throw line. Friday’s shooting was even less effective, at 31 percent from the field, 15 percent from three-point range, and 76 percent from the free-throw line.
