University of Sto. Tomas (UST) star Jonna Perdido has been ruled out for the UAAP Season 87 volleyball tournament after suffering a complete ACL tear in her left knee.
The injury occurred during an awkward landing in UST’s Shakey’s Super League Pre-season Championship bronze-medal match against FEU last November. However, the official diagnosis was only confirmed two months later.
According to a report by The Varsitarian, Perdido has already undergone surgery and is now in the early stages of her rehabilitation. Her recovery is expected to take about a year.
Perdido played a key role in UST’s historic runner-up finish in Season 86, where the Tigresses secured the No. 2 seed in the preliminary rounds.
As the Tigresses prepare for their redemption bid in the upcoming season, key players such as reigning Rookie of the Year Angge Poyos, Xyza Gula, Renee Peñafiel, and Kyla Cordora will carry the offensive load.
UAAP Season 87 volleyball action is set to begin on February 15 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
