Jaguars Schedule Second Interviews for Coaches

The Jacksonville Jaguars are making strides in their search for a new head coach, announcing on Monday that they have scheduled in-person interviews with three candidates out of an initial pool of ten. The candidates include Tampa Bay offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Las Vegas defensive coordinator Patrick Graham, and former New York Jets coach Robert Saleh. Each candidate is set to meet with owner Shad Khan, general manager Trent Baalke, and other team officials this week.

Coen’s interview is slated for Wednesday, followed by Graham on Thursday and Saleh on Friday. The Jaguars recently missed out on Detroit offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, who accepted the head coaching position with the Chicago Bears. Additionally, they appear to be out of the running for Detroit defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn, who has interviews lined up with the New Orleans Saints and the New York Jets. However, the Jaguars may revisit options such as Buffalo offensive coordinator Joe Brady, Philadelphia offensive coordinator Kellen Moore, or Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, although NFL rules prevent further interviews until next week due to their current teams participating in conference title games.

The Jaguars are seeking to turn around a franchise that finished the season with a disappointing 4-13 record. Coach Doug Pederson was dismissed following the team’s regular-season finale, which marked his 18th loss in 23 games, a decline exacerbated by injuries to quarterback Trevor Lawrence and a struggling defense. Despite concerns over Baalke’s influence—three of the five coaches he has worked with have had one-and-done tenures—the Jaguars boast a promising roster, including a young quarterback with significant upside, key defensive players, and the fifth overall pick in the upcoming draft. With approximately $50 million in salary cap space and a favorable division, the Jaguars are positioned for potential improvement in the 2025 season.
