Celtic Advances Despite Furuhashi’s 3 Disallowed Goals

Celtic striker Kyogo Furuhashi experienced a frustrating first half in the Champions League clash against Young Boys, having three goals disallowed. However, the Scottish champions ultimately secured a 1-0 victory, marking their return to the knockout stages for the first time in 12 years. The match, held at Celtic Park, was attended by the club’s most famous supporter, Rod Stewart.

Despite a dominant performance, Celtic struggled to find the back of the net in the first half. A penalty kick from Young Boys’ Arne Engels was saved by Celtic goalkeeper Marvin Keller, keeping the scoreline at 0-0 as the teams headed into halftime. Furuhashi’s disallowed goals came in the sixth and 34th minutes, while a third effort in the 31st minute was overturned after a foul by Celtic captain Callum McGregor during the build-up.

The breakthrough finally arrived in the 86th minute when a shot from Celtic forward Adam Idah deflected off Young Boys defender Loris Benito and into the net. This crucial goal not only secured the win for Celtic but also sent Young Boys to their seventh consecutive defeat in the new Champions League format, leaving them at the bottom of the standings. “A little bit of history is created,” said Celtic coach Brendan Rodgers, reflecting on the significance of the victory as the team prepares to face Aston Villa next Wednesday.
