Iga Swiatek showcased her formidable skills once again at the Australian Open, advancing to the semifinals with a convincing 6-1, 6-2 victory over Emma Navarro. The world No. 2’s performance marked her fifth consecutive straight-set win in the tournament, demonstrating her dominance on the court. Remarkably, Swiatek has dropped only 14 games across her five matches at Melbourne Park, including victories over notable opponents like Katerina Siniakova and Emma Raducanu.
In her post-match comments, the 23-year-old Polish star reflected on her competitive mindset. Swiatek acknowledged that while she possesses what she describes as a “ruthless mentality,” her intention is not to intimidate her rivals. “On a tennis court, you kind of need to be ruthless,” she explained. “But I think for me, just focusing on myself and maintaining the same attitude regardless of the score is what matters most.” This approach, she noted, has contributed to her strength and consistency throughout the tournament.
Looking ahead, Swiatek is set to face Madison Keys in the semifinals, a player who is currently riding a 10-match winning streak. Historically, Swiatek leads their head-to-head encounters 4-1, having triumphed in their meetings in Madrid and Rome last year. However, Keys claimed victory in their last hard court matchup in Cincinnati in 2022. With both players in excellent form, the upcoming clash promises to be a thrilling contest, though Swiatek remains the favorite to advance to the final.
