KALAMAZOO, Mich. — The Western Michigan gymnastics team will kick off Mid-American Conference (MAC) competition on Sunday, facing Ball State and Wilberforce at 1 p.m. in Muncie, Indiana. The meet will be available for live streaming on ESPN+.
Last Week’s Success
The Broncos recently hosted New Hampshire and Fisk, delivering a season-high score of 195.350. Western Michigan led in every event, securing its first two wins of the season in front of the home crowd.
Krzciok Continues Beam Dominance
Sophomore Emily Krzciok continued her stellar performance on the balance beam, claiming her third win of the season. Krzciok posted a 9.850 to take first place, marking her second beam title of the year after a victory at Michigan State in the season opener. Between her wins, Reese Samuelsson also earned top honors on the beam at the Next Level Podium Challenge.
Vault Rankings Surge
Following their strong performance against New Hampshire and Fisk, the Broncos have risen to the top of the MAC rankings in vault. With a season-best score of 48.800, Western Michigan now leads the conference with an average of 48.733, edging out Eastern Michigan, which has an average of 48.700.
Floor Battle: Broncos vs. Cardinals
Sunday’s competition will feature the two top teams in the MAC on floor exercise. Ball State currently leads the rankings with an average of 48.967 and a season-high of 49.150. Western Michigan is just behind, holding an average of 48.858 and a season-high score of 49.025. The meet will also showcase the MAC’s top two gymnasts in the event. Ball State’s Zoe Middleton leads with an average of 9.887, narrowly ahead of Western Michigan’s Cassie St. Clair, who has an average of 9.858.
Looking Ahead
The Broncos will return to action next Sunday, February 4, against Kent State at 1 p.m. WMU will then host Eastern Michigan on February 9 at 1 p.m. for a home meet in Kalamazoo.
