India’s top-seeded doubles team, Jeevan Nedunchezhiyan and Vijay Sundar Prashanth, advanced to the semi-finals of the Maha Open 2025 tennis tournament in Pune. They overcame fellow Indians Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan in a thrilling quarter-final match on Thursday.
The match was intense, lasting one hour and 28 minutes. Nedunchezhiyan and Prashanth saved a match point before securing a 6-3, 3-6, 12-10 victory.
Next, they will face Niki Poonacha from India and Zimbabwe’s Courtney John Lock for a chance to compete in the finals. Poonacha and Lock reached the semi-finals by defeating the fourth-seeded Australian duo of Blake Ellis and Tristan Schoolkate in a closely contested match that ended with scores of 7(7)-6(4), 6(4)-7(7), 10-8.
This outcome guarantees that at least one Indian player will be in the doubles final.
In singles action, Uzbekistan’s Khumoyun Sultanov staged a remarkable comeback to defeat former world No. 17 Bernard Tomic with scores of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, earning his spot in the quarter-finals.
American sixth seed Brandon Holt, son of former world No. 1 Tracy Austin, won comfortably against France’s Sascha Gueymard Wayenburg with a score of 6-4, 6-4.
Top seed Billy Harris from Great Britain delivered an impressive performance, hitting 14 aces during his match against Japan’s Hiroki Moriya, winning 7-5, 6-3. Meanwhile, fifth seed Ugo Blanchet ended compatriot Kyrian Jacquet’s winning streak with a comeback victory of 2-6, 6-3, 6-1.
