Xzayvier Brown recorded his fourth double-double of the season, leading the Saint Joseph’s men’s basketball team to a 75-64 victory over St. Bonaventure on Wednesday night. This win marked their third consecutive victory.
Brown finished with 22 points and 10 rebounds, all on the defensive end, while also adding three assists. Rasheer Fleming contributed 19 points, six rebounds, and three blocks. Derek Simpson added 11 points, and Erik Reynolds II tied his season-high with six assists and eight points. Justice Ajogbor helped on defense with seven rebounds and three blocks.
This was Saint Joseph’s first win over St. Bonaventure since January 6, 2018.
How the Game Unfolded:
Both teams started strong, with Saint Joseph’s making six of their first nine shots. However, St. Bonaventure hit seven of their first 10 and led 14-12 six minutes into the game. The Bonnies extended their lead to eight points, but Saint Joseph’s responded with an 8-0 run, including two three-pointers from Dasear Haskins and Anthony Finkley, tying the game at 20-20 with 8:46 remaining in the first half.
The game continued with both teams exchanging leads. As the first half came to a close, Brown hit a jumper to tie the score 35-35.
In the second half, Saint Joseph’s took a slight lead, but St. Bonaventure fought back. Leading 53-49, the Hawks went on a 10-2 run, stretching their lead to 61-53 with 8:39 left. St. Bonaventure closed the gap to seven points at 2:25 remaining, but a dunk by Fleming and two free throws by Brown sealed the victory for Saint Joseph’s.
