NEW YORK – The No. 57 Columbia women’s tennis team battled past Michigan State, earning a 4-2 victory on Sunday at the Philip and Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center.
The Lions improved to 7-4 this season, capping off a successful weekend with wins over Memphis and Michigan State.

Columbia started strong in doubles, winning on courts two and three to secure the opening point.
- Amber Yin and Sophia Wang dominated with a 6-0 victory over Amara Brahmbhatt and Issey Purser at No. 3 doubles.
- Sophia Strugnell and Gayathri Krishnan followed with a 6-2 win over Matilde Morais and Hanna Tsitavets at No. 2 doubles.
The Lions carried their momentum into singles, quickly building a 3-0 lead.
- Krishnan gave Columbia its first singles win, defeating Ellie Blackford 7-6 (7-3), 6-0 at No. 2.
- Malak El Allami extended the lead with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Liisa Vehvilainen at No. 1.
Michigan State responded with wins at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, closing the gap. The Spartans also pushed the No. 4 and No. 5 matches to third sets, keeping their hopes alive. However, Yin secured the decisive point, defeating Morais 6-2, 6-7 (5), 6-3 to seal the win for Columbia.

Columbia returns to action at home on Friday, March 7, hosting Wagner at 3 p.m., followed by a match against Stony Brook at 6:30 p.m.
