Manchester United forward Geyse has shared a heartfelt message on social media, revealing feelings of loneliness and unhappiness despite the team’s recent success.
The 26-year-old Brazilian international came on as a late substitute in Sunday’s Women’s Super League (WSL) match against Leicester, where United secured a victory to move within five points of league leaders Chelsea.
Geyse, who joined Manchester United from Barcelona in the summer of 2023, has had a challenging season. In January and February, she missed four matches after being granted compassionate leave following the passing of her brother, Geovane Ferreira.
So far this season, she has made 11 appearances across all competitions, with nine in the WSL—six of those as a starter. However, her agent has accused Manchester United of attempting to arrange a loan move to clubs in the United States while she was mourning her brother’s death.
Following Sunday’s match, Geyse posted a deeply personal message on Instagram about her struggles.
“Staying in a place where we don’t feel happy is an agonising and lonely feeling,” she wrote. “Every day seems heavier, and simply being there becomes a burden. The environment, which should be welcoming, turns into a place of discomfort where inner peace is hard to find.
“Sometimes, the need for change feels urgent, but fear of the unknown or uncertainty about the future can hold us back. However, it is important to remember that we deserve to be in places that bring us happiness and fulfillment. That’s the only way we can grow.”
When asked for a response, Manchester United told BBC Sport: “We continue to support Geyse in her well-being and are looking for options that suit all parties.”
