The University of Hawai’i men’s tennis team (3-9, 0-1 Big West) suffered a 4-0 defeat against No. 69 UC Santa Barbara in its Big West opener on Monday at the Arnhold Tennis Center.
The Gauchos secured the doubles point by winning all three matches. On Court No. 2, Diego Dalisay and Karl Collins fell 6-4 to Lucca Liu and Diogo Morais. Meanwhile, Quinn Snyder and Andy Hernandez managed to edge out Conrad Brown and Charlie Underwood with a 6-4 win on Court No. 3.
UC Santa Barbara quickly sealed the victory by winning three straight singles matches. Liu dominated Collins 6-1, 6-1 on Court No. 3. On the top court, 29th-ranked Gianluca Brunkow swept Hawai’i’s 62nd-ranked Azuma Visaya with the same score. Morais, ranked No. 73, clinched the match for UCSB by defeating Dalisay 6-3, 7-5.
Hawai’i will now continue its road trip, facing Sacramento State on Wednesday, March 5, at 11:00 a.m. HT. The Rainbow Warriors will then compete in the Golden State Invitational, where they will play UC Davis in a Big West matchup on Friday, March 7, at 8:00 a.m. HT, followed by a match against Nevada on Saturday, March 9, at 11:00 a.m. HT.
