The UT Arlington women’s tennis team (4-4) will resume their season with a matchup against North Texas (5-6) on Wednesday, March 5, at 2:30 p.m. at the Waranch Tennis Complex in Denton.
This will be the Mavericks’ first match since their 4-0 loss to No. 53 TCU at home on February 26. Despite the setback, the team showed promise, particularly in doubles play, where Ioana Dumitrescu and Ana Paula Jimenez were leading 5-4 before TCU clinched the doubles point. Jimenez and Mialy Ranaivo also had strong performances in singles, with both players pushing their matches into the deciding third set.
UTA enters March after a strong February, going 4-2 during the month. Jimenez has been a standout performer for the Mavericks, maintaining a perfect 3-0 dual-match record on Court 1. The doubles pairing of Jimenez and Dumitrescu has also been consistent, with a 4-1 record on Court 2.
This match marks the 27th meeting between the two teams, with UTA holding a 15-11 series lead. The Mavericks have won the last four matchups and are 4-1 in their last five encounters. On the road, UTA has a winning record of 7-6 against North Texas. This will be the 11th consecutive season that the teams have met in the regular season since 2014, with the exception of 2020, when the season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

North Texas comes into the match with a 5-6 overall record and is currently on a three-match losing streak. In their most recent match, the Mean Green fell 4-3 to No. 68 UTSA on March 1. Stanislava Shulzhenko leads North Texas, holding a 6-2 singles record, primarily at Court 3.
