Ben Shelton, the No. 12 player in the ATP rankings, has recently sparked an interesting debate about athletes crossing over into other sports. A viral video of the tennis star throwing a football with impressive accuracy has fans wondering if he could have a future in the NFL.
In the video shared by Bleacher Report, Shelton was seen making one impressive throw after another, showcasing his strong arm. The 22-year-old, known for his success on the tennis court, has clearly spent some time throwing a football around.
Shelton, who has won two ATP titles and earned over $6.275 million in his career, has always had a passion for football. In a recent interview with The Guardian, he admitted that as a child, he was “obsessed” with football. He confessed that he once found tennis boring compared to the more popular American sports like football, basketball, and baseball.
“Football, basketball, and baseball were the cooler sports to play in America,” Shelton shared, laughing. “But here we are.”
While making the jump from tennis to football would be challenging, Shelton’s natural talent has sparked curiosity. Could the tennis star succeed in another sport? Only time would tell, but his athletic ability certainly suggests it might not be out of the realm of possibility.
