Matt Bremer Promoted to Head Coach of St. Scholastica Football
The College of St. Scholastica has found its new head football coach in a familiar face. Assistant head coach and offensive coordinator Matt Bremer has been promoted to lead the Saints football program.
Bremer, who has served two stints at St. Scholastica over eleven years, helped lead the Saints to a strong 2024 season. Under his guidance, the team ranked among the top five in several MIAC offensive categories, including scoring, total yards, passing yards, and red zone efficiency. This offensive success played a key role in the Saints achieving their best-ever MIAC record.
Off the field, Bremer has been dedicated to ensuring his athletes excel academically. The 2024 team achieved a program-record GPA of 3.26 and were also actively involved in campus life and the broader community.
Throughout his coaching career, Bremer has overseen twelve all-conference players, five conference championships, and NCAA Division III playoff appearances. In recognition of his achievements, he was inducted into the St. Scholastica Athletics Hall of Fame as part of the 2011 football team staff. Bremer has also spoken at various coaching clinics and was honored at the AFCA National Convention.
“I’m excited to continue the work that has been done to build and grow Saints Football,” said Bremer. “Our program has always been about service, and I look forward to serving our players, alumni, staff, and the St. Scholastica community in this new role.”
Bremer expressed gratitude for the support he has received from the athletic department, alumni, and players. “Thank you to Director of Athletics Jessica Cherry, the hiring committee, President Barbara McDonald, and our alumni and players for their dedication and support,” he added.
Athletic Director Jessica Cherry shared her excitement about the new era for the football program: “I am thrilled to welcome Coach Bremer. He is a proven leader who will inspire greatness both on and off the field. We are ready for an exciting future under his leadership.”
Bremer lives in Duluth with his wife, Stephanie, and their two children, Titus and Selah.
