Burnley’s impressive run of 12 consecutive clean sheets in the Championship came to an end on Tuesday night, but the Clarets continued their promotion push with a 2-1 victory at Cardiff.
Cardiff’s Yousef Salech scored in the 42nd minute, ending Burnley’s 1,132-minute streak without conceding. However, by the time Salech found the net, Burnley were already 2-0 up, thanks to early goals from Josh Brownhill and Maxime Estève. The win moved Burnley to within two points of second-placed Sheffield United in the standings.
Hull secured a much-needed 2-0 home win against struggling Plymouth. Leeds loanee Joe Gelhardt opened the scoring before Abu Kamara sealed the win with a brilliant finish. The victory was Hull’s first at home this year, lifting them to 19th place, while Plymouth’s winless away streak now stands at 18 games.
Bristol City ended their away woes with a 2-0 victory at Millwall, thanks to goals from Zak Vyner and Harry Cornick. It was City’s first away win in 10 matches, lifting them level on points with sixth-placed West Brom. Millwall’s fans showed support for goalkeeper Liam Roberts after his recent red card in the FA Cup.
Swansea secured a valuable point in a 0-0 draw at Preston, taking their tally to four points in two games under caretaker boss Alan Sheehan. Preston’s Milutin Osmajic missed several key chances, and Swansea moved 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
In League One, Birmingham’s lead was reduced to nine points after a 3-1 defeat to Bolton. Despite a first-half lead from Emil Hansson, Bolton responded with goals from John McAtee, George Thomason, and Aaron Collins.
Wycombe continued their push for promotion with a 2-0 win over Burton, while Wrexham stayed within two points of the playoffs, winning 1-0 at Huddersfield thanks to a 73rd-minute goal from Steven Fletcher.
Stockport earned a 1-1 draw at Northampton, and Charlton claimed a 1-0 victory over Barnsley. At the bottom, Shrewsbury drew 0-0 with Bristol Rovers, leaving them eight points from safety.
In League Two, Walsall dropped points in a 1-1 draw at Carlisle, allowing Bradford to close the gap to just two points with a 3-0 win over Cheltenham. Doncaster slipped to a 1-0 loss at Bromley, while Notts County and AFC Wimbledon were defeated by Barrow and Morecambe respectively.
