The Indian tennis team has been drawn to face Switzerland in the 2025 Davis Cup World Group I, the International Tennis Federation (ITF) confirmed on Thursday.
The India vs Switzerland tie will take place on either September 12-13 or 13-14, with Switzerland, as the host nation, selecting the exact dates within this window.
India secured their spot in World Group I by defeating Togo 4-0 in the play-offs in February. On the other hand, Switzerland enters the tie after a 3-1 loss to Spain in the previous round.
The World Group I for the 2025 Davis Cup features 26 teams: 13 nations that fell short in the 2025 Qualifiers 1st Round and 13 teams that emerged victorious from the 2025 World Group I play-offs.
The winner of the India vs Switzerland match will advance to the 2026 Qualifiers 1st Round, keeping their hopes of winning the Davis Cup alive. The losing nation will drop to the 2026 World Group I play-offs.
The format for the Davis Cup ties in the Qualifiers 2nd Round, World Group I, and World Group II will remain best-of-five. On the opening day, two singles matches will be played, followed by a doubles match. The second day will feature two reverse singles matches. All matches will be played in the best-of-three tiebreak set format.
India currently holds a 2-1 lead over Switzerland in their head-to-head Davis Cup record. Their last encounter was in 1993, when Leander Paes and Ramesh Krishnan helped India win 3-2 in Kolkata.
Although India has never won the Davis Cup, they have been runners-up three times, in 1966, 1974, and 1987.
