Reggie Melton has been appointed as the new head football coach at New Brockton High School, marking the 16th coach in the Gamecocks’ history. The announcement came Thursday, as Melton transitions to the role after concluding a successful tenure at Headland High School.
Melton, originally from Ashford, spent three years as the head coach of the Headland Rams, leading them to a 21-13 overall record. Under his guidance, the Rams reached the playoffs in both 2022 and 2023 for the first time in over two decades. Notably, the 2023 season saw the Rams advance to the third round of the state playoffs for the first time in school history and secure their fourth-ever 10-win season.
In 2024, Melton’s final season at Headland, the team finished 5-5 and did not make the playoffs. He now looks forward to his next challenge at New Brockton, where he replaces Jason Barnett, who had a 7-13 record during his two-year tenure and extended the Gamecocks’ playoff drought to five years.
Melton will start his new role with New Brockton on August 22, 2025, when the Gamecocks take on Pike Liberal Arts in the season opener, hoping to end the program’s playoff drought that dates back to 2019 and secure their first winning season since 2018.
