Central Coast Mariners’ Head Coach, Emily Husband, has been selected as one of the first coaches for Football Australia’s new “Team of Coaches” Initiative. Husband will continue her duties with the Mariners while gaining hands-on experience through this opportunity, designed to help develop the next generation of high-performance football coaches.
The program offers coaches the chance to work in national team environments, participate in international camps and tournaments, all while maintaining their commitments at club level.
The main goals of the “Team of Coaches” initiative are:
- To advance the development of senior coaches to keep Australia competitive internationally.
- To strengthen the coaching pathways and depth within the football ecosystem.
- To identify and mentor potential future national team coaches for long-term succession.
- To bridge the gap between club football and international competitions, offering exposure to high-performance environments.
- To foster collaboration between clubs and national teams, integrating best practices in coaching.
Gary Moretti, Football Australia’s Head of National Teams, emphasized the importance of this program in developing Australia’s coaching talent.
“The ‘Team of Coaches’ initiative reinforces our commitment to building a seamless high-performance pathway from youth national teams to the CommBank Matildas,” Moretti said. “This program is a game-changer, offering top coaches national team experience while allowing them to continue their club roles, strengthening our coaching leadership pipeline.”
