Melbourne City is proud to announce that Melissa Barbieri has been chosen for Football Australia’s inaugural Team of Coaches initiative.
Barbieri, currently an Assistant Coach and goalkeeper for City, is one of the four high-performance club coaches selected for this prestigious program. The initiative aims to provide emerging coaches with valuable experience in national team environments, international camps, and tournaments, while still allowing them to fulfill their club roles.
With more than 15 years of international experience, the former Matildas captain brings a wealth of knowledge and leadership to the program. Barbieri has been a part of City’s coaching staff since 2018, where she has focused on goalkeeper development, tactical coaching, and mentoring future leaders.
Her leadership and commitment to nurturing young talent have been instrumental in City’s success, and she is eager to continue helping grow the game in Australia through this new opportunity.
The Team of Coaches initiative aims to:
- Advance senior coach development to keep Australia competitive globally.
- Strengthen coaching depth and pathways within the football ecosystem.
- Identify and mentor future national team coaches, ensuring long-term success.
- Bridge the gap between club and international football, offering high-performance exposure.
