Harvard men’s volleyball split its weekend series with Charleston, falling 3-1 in the second match of the weekend. The loss came after a competitive battle, with the Golden Eagles claiming the victory on Sunday afternoon.
Zach Berty led the Crimson with another impressive performance, recording 11 kills, a .321 hitting percentage, nine digs, and three service aces.
How It Happened
The first set was closely contested, with both teams struggling to establish a clear lead. Charleston built a slight advantage at 14-11, but Harvard responded with a 4-1 run to tie the game. The Golden Eagles reclaimed the lead late and fought off a strong push from Harvard, holding on to win the first set 25-23.
Harvard regrouped in the second set, dominating with an 8-1 run to lead 21-14. Despite Charleston’s efforts to rally, the Crimson secured the set 25-21, leveling the match at 1-1.
The third set saw Charleston regain control. After an even start, the Golden Eagles went on an 8-1 run to close the set with a commanding 25-14 victory.
Harvard came out strong in the fourth set, tying it at 11-all and then taking the lead 16-14. However, Charleston answered with a 3-0 run to regain control. The Golden Eagles held off Harvard’s final push and took the set 25-22 to win the match 3-1.
Harvard Highlights
Berty’s all-around performance was crucial for the Crimson, contributing both offensively and defensively. He was joined by James Bardin, who added seven kills with a .778 hitting percentage and co-led the team with nine digs.
Logan Shepherd, Owen Fanning, and Owen Woolbert also provided strong offensive performances, contributing to Harvard’s 45 total team kills. As a team, the Crimson recorded six service aces, with Berty leading the way with three.

Harvard will be back in action next weekend as the team heads to Provo, UT, to face BYU on Saturday, March 15, at 9:00 p.m. ET.
