The Abilene Christian University (ACU) men’s tennis team secured a 4-3 victory over Lehigh on a sunny Tuesday afternoon at the Judi and Cecil Eager Tennis Pavilion. The Wildcats (10-6) claimed the doubles point with two quick wins before sealing the match in singles play.
Merse Deli and Benjamin McDonald set the tone with a 6-3 win over Sean Jaeger and Marc Blekhman. Soon after, Ethan Scribner and Alejandro Verdasco clinched the doubles point by defeating Luke Donovan and Jose Murariu 6-4. The third doubles match, featuring Matheus Lima and Martin Delnido, was left unfinished at 5-5 after ACU had already secured the point.
In singles competition, Lima dominated Wyeth Anzilotti 6-1, 6-0 to extend ACU’s lead. Scribner and Delnido followed with straight-set victories. McDonald and Dennis Dutine pushed their matches to tiebreakers after winning their second sets but ultimately fell in the deciding frame.
