Melbourne City and Socceroos winger Marco Tilio is relishing his return to regular football after a challenging period with injuries. The 23-year-old has been growing in confidence with each match and is eager to continue his momentum when City hosts Newcastle Jets on Wednesday night.
With the A-League season in full swing, Tilio believes Melbourne City is hitting its stride at the right time.
“We’ve had a good run of form, so playing another game before the international break is great for us,” Tilio said. “The team is finally coming together, and I think we’re only going to get stronger.”
Finding Joy in Football Again
For Tilio, staying fit and playing consistently has been a long time coming.
“I haven’t had a run of games in a while, so to be playing again and enjoying it has been really good,” he said. “Sitting on the sidelines is tough. Watching so many games instead of playing them is never easy for a player.”
Now that he’s healthy, his focus is on maintaining his form and contributing to the team.
“I just want to stay fit and do everything I can to be out there. That’s the most important thing for me and the team.”
Pushing for Peak Form
Recovering from injuries can be a lonely process, but Tilio remained determined through it all.
“Rehab can be tough. You’re in the gym alone while the team trains, and on game days, you don’t get that buzz,” he said. “But I always kept the right mentality and worked hard to get back in the best shape possible.”
Now, he’s working toward full match fitness and believes he still has more to give.
“I’d say I’m at about 70-80% right now, but I’m building with each game. Hopefully, in the next month, I’ll be at 100% and feeling confident for the final stretch of the season.”
As Melbourne City continues its push for success, Tilio’s resurgence could be a key factor in their campaign.
