For the second time this season, the Belmont University men’s tennis team has claimed both Horizon League weekly awards. Junior Esunge Ndumbe was named Horizon League Singles Player of the Week, while he and freshman Charlie Robin earned Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week, the conference announced Wednesday.
This marks Ndumbe’s third Singles Player of the Week honor, having previously won on Feb. 12 and Feb. 26. He and Robin join teammates Stefan Vedovelli and Sabi Roi, who were recognized as the league’s top doubles team on Feb. 26.
Ndumbe played a crucial role in Belmont’s hard-fought 4-3 victory over local rival Lipscomb last Friday. Competing at No. 1 singles, he dominated Oskar Szymczak with a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win. He and Robin also helped secure the crucial doubles point at No. 2 doubles, delivering a 6-2 victory over Lipscomb’s Filippo Verdese and Szymczak.
The Bruins continued their success with another 4-3 win against Mercer on Tuesday. Now at 6-9 this season, Belmont prepares for a tough road matchup against No. 39 Auburn on Thursday. The match at the Yarbrough Tennis Center in Auburn, Alabama, is set to begin at 5 p.m.
