Belmont University men’s tennis put up a strong fight against No. 39 Auburn but ultimately fell 4-1 in a competitive match Thursday night at Yarbrough Tennis Center.
The Bruins started strong by securing the doubles point in thrilling fashion. Stefan Vedovelli and Sabi Roi delivered a clutch performance, defeating Billy Blaydes and Will Nolan on the top doubles court. After Auburn responded with a win at No. 2 doubles, the decisive match came down to Diego Castro and Eli Mizerski. The Belmont duo battled through a tiebreak to clinch the doubles point, giving the Bruins an early 1-0 lead.
However, Auburn responded forcefully in singles play, claiming wins at the No. 2, No. 5, and No. 6 positions to take a 3-1 lead. Despite the deficit, Belmont continued to fight. Charlie Robin won the second set 6-4 against Nolan at No. 1 singles, while Roi remained locked in a tight match at No. 3 singles.
Ultimately, Auburn sealed the victory when Joey Phillips defeated Morgan Woodson in a hard-fought match at No. 4 singles.
