The Bucknell baseball team suffered a tough 22-6 loss to Florida International in seven innings on Thursday night at FIU Baseball Stadium. The Panthers took control early, scoring multiple runs in four of their six innings at the plate, highlighted by a massive 12-run fifth inning.
Game Recap
Bucknell (now on a three-game losing streak) struggled to contain FIU’s offense, which combined for 14 hits and took advantage of 17 walks from Bison pitchers.
Senior Tyler Dunn continued his strong performance, delivering an RBI double in the third inning. Dunn has recorded a hit in seven of the eight games he has played and has driven in at least one run in six of them.
Michael Trommer and Chris Morabito each contributed two RBIs for Bucknell. Morabito went 1-for-1 with an RBI double in the second inning and drew two walks. Andrew Swenson and Ryan Facinelli also added an RBI each.
Bucknell briefly tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning after Morabito’s RBI double, but FIU responded with three runs in the bottom half. The Panthers then added three runs in both the third and fourth innings, extending their lead to 10-3.
The game slipped further out of reach in the fifth inning when FIU exploded for 12 runs, fueled by eight hits and five walks. Bucknell’s offense stalled after the third inning and didn’t record another hit until the seventh, when they managed a late three-run rally.
Freshman John Calabrese provided a bright spot with a pinch-hit single in the seventh, extending his streak of reaching base safely to three consecutive games.
On the mound, junior Ethan Firestein delivered a solid outing in the sixth inning, striking out two batters and keeping FIU scoreless for the only time in the game.
