Ben Lane and Sean Vendy exited the YONEX All England Open Badminton Championships 2025 after a closely contested second-round match against Chinese Taipei’s eighth-seeded pair, Yang Po-Hsuan and Lee Jhe-Huei.
Despite a determined effort, the English duo fell 23-21, 23-21 on Day 3 in Birmingham. After the match, they acknowledged their opponents’ strong performance in crucial moments.
“We played well today, but honestly, they were the better pair,” Lane admitted. “They handled the key points at the end of both sets better than we did.”
Lane and Vendy saved three game points in the opening set but couldn’t prevent Yang and Lee from clinching it on their fourth attempt.
Needing a strong response in the second set, the English pair built a solid lead against the world No. 10 duo. However, they let a game point slip, with their opponents successfully challenging a call to stay in the match. Yang and Lee then converted a match point to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
“We thought we had won the set, but suddenly we hadn’t,” Vendy said. “If you hit shots out, that’s just how it goes. We’re improving, but today wasn’t our best. Credit to them for playing well.”
Despite the disappointment, Lane and Vendy remain optimistic about their progress, having displayed strong performances over the past six months.
