The FIU women’s tennis team continued its impressive form on Tuesday afternoon, earning its seventh consecutive victory with a 4-3 win over ETSU at the PayCargo Tennis Center.
The 66th-ranked Panthers (9-2) overcame the 73rd-ranked Buccaneers (7-5) by securing a key doubles point and winning the top three singles matches. FIU remains unbeaten at its home courts, which were inaugurated just before the 2024 CUSA Championships in May 2024.
FIU started strong in doubles, with both of its top pairs winning by identical 6-3 scores. Ekaterina Khairutdinova and Oyinlomo Quadre teamed up at No. 1, while Katerina Mandelikova and Anja Draskovic played at No. 2, giving the Panthers an early 1-0 advantage.
In singles, Khairutdinova and Quadre continued their dominance with straight-set victories, putting FIU ahead 3-0. ETSU claimed a win at the No. 5 spot, but Sofia Gynina sealed the match for the Panthers with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 win, making it 4-1. Although the teams had already agreed to play all singles matches to completion, ETSU earned two more wins at the No. 4 and No. 6 positions, resulting in a final score of 4-3.
Khairutdinova extended her unbeaten streak in dual matches with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Quadre improved to 8-2 this season after a 6-2, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
