Charlotte Football kicked off its spring practices on Tuesday, marking the beginning of a new era under head coach Tim Albin. With a fresh coaching staff and a renewed sense of purpose, the 49ers are focused on laying the foundation for success in the upcoming season.
Albin praised his staff’s dedication and emphasized the importance of steady progress throughout spring training.
“Our staff is elite,” Albin said. “In the fall, the biggest jump is from game one to game two. For us now, it’s from Tuesday to Thursday and then to Saturday. We won’t be perfect, but we’ll strive to be.”
Building Blocks of Success
The 49ers are keeping things simple, focusing on key fundamentals across offense, defense, and special teams. Practices emphasize teaching, with drills often paused for adjustments to ensure players master the finer details.
The intensity was evident on the first day, as players stayed after practice for extra reps, reinforcing the team’s commitment to improvement. The energy from Albin’s coaching staff has been a major factor in setting the right tone.
“Anytime there’s a new staff, there are adjustments,” said returning center Jonny King. “But these coaches are energetic, passionate about football, and care about us. They make you want to play for them.”
Establishing Chemistry on the Field
While Charlotte’s depth chart remains fluid, the team wasted no time testing its playbook. Quarterbacks launched deep passes, backs worked through run-pass-option plays, and defenders showcased their speed and agility.
A highlight of the session came when Conner Harrell connected with E. Jai Mason on a back-shoulder throw, drawing cheers from teammates. On defense, Donovan Spellman displayed his quick footwork with a spin move past an offensive tackle.
Despite the early-stage learning curve, Albin was pleased with the team’s focus and execution.
“I don’t think we had a turnover today,” Albin noted. “Charlotte doesn’t beat Charlotte.”
Looking Ahead
Albin acknowledges that he is still settling into his new role, but the team’s early efforts are promising. As spring practice continues, film sessions will provide further insights into how the roster is shaping up.
For the players, the goal is clear—bring success to a city hungry for a winning football team.
“We’re hungry,” King said. “This city needs a championship. If you’re not doing more, you’re doing less. And these guys? They’re ready to win something for Charlotte.”
