Tulane’s Campbell Ricci Named AAC Player of the Week After Strong Singles Wins

Tulane freshman Campbell Ricci has been named the American Athletic Conference (AAC) Women’s Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Ricci earned the honor after a perfect 2-0 performance at the No. 1 singles position during Tulane’s home matches last week. The Green Wave faced two ranked teams, and Ricci delivered standout performances in both contests.

On Friday, April 4, Ricci secured a 6-2, 6-3 win against No. 29 Florida Atlantic, despite Tulane falling 4-2 in the overall match. Two days later, she played a key role in Tulane’s 4-2 victory over No. 43 Tulsa. Ricci battled back to defeat The American’s top-ranked singles player, No. 79 Maria Berlanga, in three sets: 4-6, 6-2, 7-6 (7-3).

A native of Las Vegas, Nevada, Ricci improved her season record to an impressive 14-2 at the top singles spot. Even more notably, she completed the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record in finished singles matches at home.

She becomes the first Tulane women’s tennis player to win the AAC Player of the Week award since Sade Atkinson in April 2017. Atkinson also earned Player of the Month honors back in October 2016.

Tulane will next compete in the 2025 AAC Women’s Tennis Championship, which begins Thursday, April 17, in Memphis, Tennessee. The tournament will take place at the Leftwich Tennis Center and run through Sunday, April 20.
