Rohan Bopanna and Ben Shelton have reached the quarter-finals of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters after a thrilling victory on Wednesday against third seeds Simone Bolelli and Andrea Vavassori.
The Indian-American pair won 2-6, 7-6(4), 10-7 in a dramatic Match Tie-break. They quickly built a 4/0 lead but fell behind 5/6. However, they rallied by winning five of the next six points to secure their spot in the quarter-finals.
Bopanna and Shelton will next face either Romain Arneodo and Manuel Guinard or singles players Jack Draper and Tomas Machac. Bopanna previously won the Monte-Carlo title in 2017, partnering with Pablo Cuevas.
In another match, top seeds Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic extended their winning streak to 11 matches. They defeated Frenchmen Sadio Doumbia and Fabien Reboul 6-3, 3-6, 10-7. Arevalo and Pavic are aiming for their third consecutive ATP Masters 1000 title after winning both Indian Wells and Miami.
Arevalo and Pavic will meet Alex de Minaur and Jan-Lennard Struff in the quarter-finals.
Seventh seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool also advanced, defeating Petros Tsitsipas and Stefanos Tsitsipas 6-1, 7-6(5).
