Chelsea Manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that Wesley Fofana will miss the remainder of the season due to a hamstring injury. The 24-year-old French centre-back underwent successful surgery on Saturday, according to the club.
While Fofana’s absence will be felt, Maresca remains optimistic about the returns of midfielder Romeo Lavia and striker Marc Guiu before the season concludes.
“Unfortunately, Wes will be out for the rest of the season,” Maresca stated ahead of Chelsea’s Europa Conference League quarter-final first leg against Legia Warsaw in Poland. “Hopefully, we can get Romeo back soon. I’m not sure if it will be for the next game, but he looks quite good and should return soon.”
He added, “We need to support both, and at the end of the season, we will see.”
As for Guiu, Maresca shared positive news, saying, “Marc looks much better now, and he could be back before the season ends.”
Lavia, 21, has struggled with a hamstring issue and faced a setback during his brief return as a substitute against Arsenal last month. Guiu, 19, has not played since February, following a match against West Ham.
