Ghana and Tanzania Crowned Champions at CAF African Schools Football Championship

History was made on Saturday, 26 April, at the University of Ghana as both Ghana’s U-15 Girls team and Tanzania’s U-15 Boys team triumphed in the CAF African Schools Football Championship Continental Finals, held in Accra.

In a thrilling final, Ghana’s U-15 Girls delivered an impressive performance before a passionate home crowd. They defeated Uganda 2-0, securing their first continental title in their debut appearance at the Finals. This victory marks a significant achievement for Ghanaian youth football and signals a bright future for the nation’s talent on the African stage.

Meanwhile, Tanzania’s U-15 Boys team successfully defended their title. After a tense 0-0 draw with Senegal, the Tanzanians triumphed in a dramatic penalty shootout to retain their crown.

The four-day tournament, held from 23 to 26 April 2025 at the University of Ghana, brought together the best young football talents from across Africa. It highlighted the unity and potential of African youth, showcasing the transformative power of the sport.

The closing ceremony was attended by CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama. Together, they presented the championship trophies to the victorious teams.

In the third-place play-offs, Ghana’s U-15 Boys team defeated Uganda, while South Africa’s U-15 Girls team secured the bronze medal after a hard-fought 2-1 win over Morocco.

Saturday’s final marked another successful season of Africa’s largest schools football competition, which continues to be a vital part of Dr. Motsepe’s vision of making African football globally competitive and self-sustaining.
