The Gustavus Adolphus College women’s tennis team completed a perfect regular season on Sunday, April 27, clinching the 2025 MIAC Women’s Tennis Regular Season Championship outright with a 9-0 victory over St. Scholastica.
The Gusties finished the conference schedule undefeated at 10-0, marking the 29th time in program history they have gone without a loss in MIAC play. It also marks the 25th perfect MIAC season for head coach Jon Carlson, who celebrated his 50th career regular season title and 25th with the women’s tennis program.
Carlson, who has also won 25 MIAC titles with the Gustavus swimming and diving teams (13 men’s, 12 women’s), now ranks second all-time among MIAC coaches for the most championships won. He leads all active MIAC coaches and those at current member schools. Only Joe Sweeney of St. Thomas, with 85 titles across cross country and track and field, has more.
On Sunday, the Gusties completed the conference regular season undefeated in doubles play, sweeping the Saints (11-7, 5-5 MIAC) once more. Molly Austin and Lanie Davis won quickly at No. 2 doubles with an 8-1 score. Karina Elvestrom and Kaya De Bruijn added an 8-5 victory at No. 1, while Brooke Haddorff and Pavla Yakimova won a close match at No. 3, 8-7 (14-12).
In singles, Austin continued her strong season, winning 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 and finishing the MIAC singles season with a perfect 9-0 record. Davis followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 4, and De Bruijn added a 6-2, 6-1 result at No. 2.
Elvestrom picked up her 12th dual match win with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 1 singles. Noor Omar earned two 6-1 wins at No. 5, and Allison Szalay closed out the day with a 6-2, 7-6 (10-8) win at No. 6.
The 2025 championship is Gustavus’ first MIAC title since the 2021–22 season. With the No. 1 playoff seed secured, the Gusties will host a MIAC semifinal on Friday, May 2, at 3:30 p.m. in Saint Peter. The championship match will be held at the site of the highest remaining seed.
