Flagler College’s men’s tennis team claimed its second consecutive Peach Belt Conference Tournament title on Sunday with a 4-1 win over North Georgia in Columbus. The Saints also earned the PBC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Flagler started strong by winning the doubles point. Ilian Borlee and Simon Malis defeated CSU’s Robin Eldin and Juan Cruz Blanco 6-4 at No. 1 doubles. Aly El Rafie and Baptiste Mercier then secured the point by beating Marcos Castellanos and Franco Rebora 6-4 at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Flagler quickly went up 2-0 after Malis defeated Rebora 6-3, 0-6, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. North Georgia fought back at No. 4 singles, where Blanco beat Makary Adamek 6-4, 6-3.
The Saints responded with two more victories to clinch the championship. Borlee outlasted Castellanos 7-6 (7-1), 6-3 at No. 3 singles to give Flagler a 3-1 lead. Filip Kana then sealed the title at No. 5 singles, winning 7-5, 6-2 over Lleyton Beasley.
