This is Stanford’s highest national seed since 2018, when the Cardinal also earned the No. 4 spot and hosted the first and second rounds.

Stanford has not faced New Mexico since 1997 and holds a 2-1 all-time record against the Lobos. Against Pepperdine, Stanford has a 30-9 record, with their most recent meeting in 2024. The Cardinal is 1-0 all-time against Alabama, winning their only matchup in 1984. Stanford has faced Pepperdine seven times in the NCAA Tournament, holding a 5-2 advantage. This will be the first postseason meeting against both New Mexico and Alabama.

This year marks the first time since 2019 that Stanford will host NCAA Tournament matches. In recent years, Stanford has advanced to the Super Regionals by winning road regionals at Harvard (2022), Columbia (2023), and Oklahoma (2024). Over the past eight seasons, Stanford has reached the Super Regionals from the road four times—more than any other program during that span.

Stanford enters the tournament with a 22-5 record and as the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Champions in its first season in the league. The 22 wins are Stanford’s most since 2018. A 23rd win would mark its best season since 2003, when the team finished with 25 victories.

This year is Stanford’s 17th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and its 45th overall. The Cardinal has an impressive 117-28 all-time record in the tournament.
