The Oklahoma women’s tennis team has earned the No. 6 seed in the 2025 NCAA Championship and will host first and second round matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center, the NCAA announced Monday.
The Sooners will begin tournament play against Denver on Friday, May 2. In the other first-round match, Oklahoma State will face Tulsa. The winners of Friday’s matches will meet in the second round on Saturday, May 3. The team that advances from the second round will move on to the Super Regionals the following weekend.
The No. 6 seed is the second highest in program history for Oklahoma, which is making its 16th NCAA Tournament appearance and sixth under head coach Audra Cohen. It also marks the fifth time the Sooners have hosted the first and second rounds and the first time the team has qualified for the tournament five years in a row. OU has reached at least the second round in each of the past three seasons.
“It’s an honor to host and welcome some of the best teams in the country to our home courts,” Cohen said. “We’ve worked really hard through a tough SEC season to earn this opportunity. We’re battle-tested and ready for a tough NCAA Tournament.”
Tickets for the two-day regional are now on sale. General admission tickets are $5 per day, and University of Oklahoma students can attend for free with a valid student ID. Tickets can be purchased by calling the OU Athletics Ticket Office at 800-456-GoOU or visiting SoonerSports.com.
In its first season competing in the SEC, Oklahoma finished with a 19-6 overall record and went 11-4 in conference play. The Sooners reached the semifinals of the SEC Championship as the No. 3 seed.
The 64-team NCAA field includes 31 automatic qualifiers and 33 at-large bids. As one of the top eight seeds, Oklahoma is also in line to host a Super Regional match. The final eight teams will compete for the national championship from May 15-18 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.
