The Indian women’s baseball team has secured its place in the 2025 Asian Cup after defeating Thailand 6-5 in the Super Round stage of the qualifiers in Bangkok on Monday.
The tournament, organized by WBSC Asia, is the second-tier competition below the Asian Baseball Championship. It also serves as a qualifier, with the top two teams earning a direct entry into the Asian Baseball Championship.
India was part of the Western Division in the Asian Baseball Cup 2025 Qualifiers. They were grouped with Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and Iran in Group A during the Opening Round.
The Indian team won all three of its group matches. They started with a dominant 14-4 victory over Sri Lanka, followed by a close 2-1 win against Pakistan, and a commanding 13-0 triumph over Iran to advance to the Super Round.
In the Super Round, India needed a top-two finish to qualify for the main tournament. They lost their first Super Round game 5-3 to Indonesia but bounced back by edging Thailand 6-5.
With this crucial win, India secured a top-two finish. Indonesia took first place, and both teams have now qualified for the Asia Cup.
India will face Indonesia in the gold medal match on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Thailand will meet Pakistan in the bronze medal game.
This marks India’s fourth consecutive appearance in the Asian Baseball Cup. Their best finish came in 2017, when they placed fifth. Last year, India participated in the 2023 edition but did not advance past the first round.
