The New Orleans Privateers men’s tennis team is heading to Mississippi State for the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The matchup was revealed during Monday evening’s NCAA Selection Show.
The Privateers earned their spot after a remarkable run in the Southland Conference Championships. They defeated three of the tournament’s top four seeds and clinched the title with a 4-1 win over NJIT on Saturday. Southland Freshman of the Year Julian Franzmann secured the deciding point, sending New Orleans to the NCAA Tournament for just the second time in program history.
The team’s last NCAA appearance came in 2022, when they faced Florida in the first round. That Gators squad included current world No. 13 Ben Shelton.
This year, the Privateers will take on the Mississippi State Bulldogs, who are currently ranked No. 12 in the latest ITA rankings. The Bulldogs advanced to the SEC semifinals before falling in a tight 4-3 match to South Carolina.
A full match preview will be released on Thursday. The match is scheduled for Friday at 1 p.m.
