Augustana College sophomore Saman Rezaeyan has been named the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin (CCIW) Student-Athlete of the Week, the league announced Tuesday.
Rezaeyan, who hails from Shiraz, Iran, delivered a perfect 4-0 record over the weekend, helping the Vikings secure a share of the CCIW regular-season title. He picked up wins in both singles and doubles matches against Illinois Wesleyan and Millikin.
On Saturday against Millikin, Rezaeyan teamed up with Tim Philip to earn a dominant 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles over Esteban Durand and Max Macke. He then battled back in singles to defeat Clayton Maack at the No. 2 spot, 3-6, 7-5, 7-5.
The next day, Rezaeyan and Philip earned another doubles win with a 6-2 result against Griffin Hammond and Chase Tomecki of Illinois Wesleyan. Rezaeyan also claimed a straight-set singles win over Ben Vigneri, 6-3, 6-3, again at the No. 2 position.
