Libya’s Swehly Sports Club clinched the title at the 46th African Men’s Volleyball Club Championship after a dramatic 3-2 victory over Tunisia’s Espérance Sportive de Tunis in Misrata.
The intense final, held in front of a roaring home crowd, went the full distance with Swehly winning 25–23, 23–25, 25–20, 22–25, and 15–12. The match, lasting more than two hours, featured high-level play, fierce rallies, and a showcase of skill and determination from both teams.
Swehly took an early lead by claiming the first set, but Espérance quickly leveled the score with a narrow win in the second. The Libyans came back strong in the third set through aggressive net play and solid defense. However, the Tunisians once again bounced back in the fourth to push the match into a deciding fifth set.
In the final set, Swehly dug deep, feeding off the energy of their passionate supporters to edge out their opponents and secure the championship.
Key players for Swehly, wearing jerseys 18 and 6, made pivotal contributions with clutch attacks and blocks. Espérance’s standout athletes, numbers 4 and 11, impressed with strong serving and net dominance.
The victory is a milestone for Libyan volleyball, signaling a resurgence of sports in the country and offering a unifying moment for fans. The match is already being hailed as one of the most memorable finals in the history of the competition.
CAVB President Bouchra Hajij commended the tournament’s organization and praised the enthusiastic Libyan fans, calling the event a major success.
