After a hard-fought loss in the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament final, the Babson College women’s tennis team has secured a spot in the NCAA Tournament. The Beavers received an at-large bid when the national pairings were announced Monday afternoon.
Ranked 15th nationally, Babson holds a 14-6 record this season. The team fell 4-2 to No. 8 MIT in Sunday’s conference championship match. Despite the setback, the Beavers will return to the NCAA stage for the fourth time in program history—and for the first time since 2023.
Babson will begin tournament play on Friday at 3:00 p.m. in Middlebury, Vermont. Their first-round opponent is UMass Boston, which comes in with a 14-2 record and earned an automatic bid by winning the Little East Conference title. This marks the third consecutive NCAA appearance for the UMass Boston squad.
The winner of Friday’s match will advance to the second round on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. There, they will face either 12th-ranked Johns Hopkins University (12-7) or Lesley University (10-4), depending on the outcome of their first-round clash.
Meanwhile, in the other half of the regional bracket, fourth-ranked Middlebury College (17-2) awaits the winner of SUNY New Paltz (12-7) and Albright College (17-0). Saturday’s two winners will meet in Sunday’s regional final.
Babson’s history in the NCAA Tournament includes second-round appearances in 2015 and 2021. In 2023, the team reached its first-ever regional final, marking a major milestone for the program.
As they return to national competition, the Beavers aim to build on that momentum and make another deep postseason run.
