Ravens Release Star Kicker Justin Tucker Amid Ongoing Misconduct Allegations

The Baltimore Ravens announced on Monday that longtime kicker Justin Tucker has been released, months after multiple massage therapists accused him of inappropriate sexual behavior.

The team said the move was made for “football” reasons and did not mention the allegations in its official statement. Ravens general manager Eric DeCosta called it a “tough decision” based on the team’s current roster.

“Sometimes football decisions are incredibly difficult, and this is one of those instances,” DeCosta said.

The Baltimore Banner previously reported that more than a dozen massage therapists in the Baltimore area accused Tucker of sexual misconduct. The claims include exposing himself, brushing his genitals against therapists, and ejaculating on massage tables. Two businesses reportedly banned Tucker from returning. One therapist called the experience “really degrading,” while another said, “I can’t watch sports anymore. I see his face everywhere.”

The NFL is currently investigating the allegations. When the claims first emerged, DeCosta described them as “serious” and “concerning.” Tucker has denied any wrongdoing.

Despite his off-field controversy, Tucker has had a remarkable career. He is considered by many as the best kicker in NFL history, holding the league record for longest field goal and career field goal percentage. Since joining the team as an undrafted free agent in 2012, he earned seven Pro Bowl selections and played a key role in the Ravens’ most recent Super Bowl win during his rookie season.

However, the 35-year-old struggled in 2024, recording the lowest field goal percentage of his career at 73.3%, down from his career average of 89.1%. The Ravens’ recent decision to draft kicker Tyler Loop in the sixth round signaled a possible shift away from Tucker.

Last week, head coach John Harbaugh said that the team might act before the NFL’s investigation concludes.

“Every decision we make has to be based on football,” Harbaugh said. “You’ve got a rookie kicker in here. You took him in the sixth round… From a football standpoint – salary cap, all the different things – whatever we decide to do will be based on football.”

Tucker signed a four-year extension in 2022 worth $24 million, with $17.5 million guaranteed. He was the last remaining member of the Ravens’ 2012 championship team.

“Justin created many significant and unforgettable moments in Ravens history,” DeCosta said. “His reliability, focus, drive, resilience, and extraordinary talent made him one of the league’s best kickers for over a decade. We are grateful for his contributions and wish him and his family the very best.”
