The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announced its 2024-25 men’s tennis awards on Tuesday. Gustavus Adolphus College emerged as a major winner, earning the Doubles Team of the Year, the prestigious Arthur Ashe Award, and eight All-Conference honors.
Defending NCAA champions Gage Gohl and Tyler Haddorff were named MIAC Doubles Team of the Year for the second year in a row. The pair posted an 18-6 overall record this season, including a 2-0 mark in MIAC play.
Senior Marco Siviero was honored with the Arthur Ashe Award, given to a student-athlete who demonstrates exceptional sportsmanship and achievements in athletics, academics, and community service. Siviero began his final season by earning All-America honors at the ITA Cup, reaching the doubles semifinals with partner Josh Christensen. He also finished runner-up in the ITA Midwest Regional singles championship.
Siviero has a 15-12 singles record this season, going 4-0 in MIAC matches. In doubles, he is 19-10 overall and 5-0 in conference play. His career totals include a 52-47 singles record and a 71-21 doubles record.
“Marco brings maturity, intensity, and perspective to every match,” said head coach Dr. Tommy Valentini. “He competes with passion and respect, always striving to uplift the team.”
A double major in business management and communication studies, Siviero holds a 3.87 GPA. He has been recognized as a Singles and Doubles All-American and Academic All-American during his time at Gustavus.
“Coming from Brazil to a new culture helped me grow as an athlete and a person,” said Siviero. “Tennis has shown me how to play for something bigger than myself.”
In singles, Rafael de Camargo Costa and Noah Hakim received All-Conference honors. Costa went undefeated (5-0) in MIAC play and was 9-8 overall. Hakim also went unbeaten in the conference (6-0) and posted a 10-3 overall record. This is Costa’s second straight All-MIAC singles honor.
All-Conference doubles selections included Gohl, Haddorff, Hakim, Dominik Knutson, Siviero, and Owen Skanse. Gohl and Haddorff combined for 2-0 and 3-0 records in MIAC doubles, respectively. Hakim went 6-0, Knutson 5-0, Siviero 5-0, and Skanse 6-0 in conference doubles matches.
Honorable mention in singles went to Christensen, Gohl, Haddorff, Knutson, and Siviero. In doubles, Christensen, Costa, and Taona Mhwandagara received honorable mention recognition.
The All-Playoff Team included Christensen, Knutson, and Mhwandagara. It marks the second straight appearance on the All-Playoff Team for Christensen.
MIAC men’s tennis awards are determined by votes from the conference’s head coaches. Only statistics from MIAC matches are considered. Players who did not make the All-Conference list but received votes from at least three coaches were given honorable mention.
