The University of North Alabama women’s tennis team is heading into postseason play for the first time since joining NCAA Division I. On Wednesday, May 7, the Lions will face Middle Tennessee State in the opening round of the UTR Sports NIT Tournament.
The tournament takes place at the Rome Tennis Center at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. UNA’s first-round match against the Blue Raiders is scheduled for 2 p.m. CT.
This appearance marks a major milestone for the program. UNA is one of eight teams competing in the event, which features programs from six different conferences. Other teams in the field include Charlotte, Washington State, Appalachian State, North Texas, Northern Illinois, and Saint Mary’s College of California.
The winner of the UNA vs. MTSU matchup will move on to face the winner of the Charlotte vs. Saint Mary’s match in the semifinals. The championship match is set for Saturday, May 9.
